The first lady said that a "new era in publishing" begins with the AI audiobook, which was "created under Mrs. Trump's direction," according to her website. While she's embracing the technology for her book, Melania has previously spoken out against AI in other contexts, like used to create deepfakes. The first lady announced on Thursday, May 22, that she is ushering in a "new era in publishing" by releasing an AI-narrated audiobook of her life's story for $25. "I am honored to bring youMelania – The AI Audiobook– narrated entirely using artificial intelligence in my own voice," Trump, 55, shared onX. "Let the future of publishing begin." The first lady's official website notes that the AI-generated replica of her voice was "created under Mrs. Trump's direction and supervision." While the 7-hour audiobook is only available in English at present, "multiple foreign language versions will be released at a later date, commencing in Fall 2025," the website says. Melaniawas released in October 2024, and tells the first lady's story of growing up in Slovenia, entering the world of high fashion and eventually meeting and marrying PresidentDonald Trump. She also shares "stories and images never before shared with the public" from her early years, home life and time in the White House as first lady. While the first lady has embraced AI for this latest venture, she recentlyspoke out against its usein other digital spaces in a rare White House appearance. In March, Trump joined a roundtable discussion on Capitol Hill in support ofthe "TAKE IT DOWN" Act— which her husbandsigned into lawon May 19. The new law aims to protect victims of revenge pornography and deepfake porn, which is sexual content generated by artificial intelligence. It's also created new concerns about the creation and distribution of child pornography. "The widespread presence of abusive behavior in the digital domain affects the daily lives of our children, families, and communities," the first lady told assembled politicians and members of the press during her rare political appearance. "Addressing this issue is essential for fostering a safe and supportive environment for our young people."
