
Jill Sobule, the acclaimed singer-songwriter who died tragically on May 1 in a house fire in Minneapolis at the age of 66, will be remembered with a series ofJillith Fair—Loving Jill Sobuletribute shows across the U.S. throughout the rest of the year. Sobule was best known for the 1995 hit single "I Kissed a Girl," which came years before the 2008 similarly namedKaty Perryhit. Some fans, andSobule herself, thought Perry's song was heavily inspired by Sobule's tune, which was a top 20 hit on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. She also had a hit with the song "Supermodel," which was featured on the soundtrack toClueless. Her most recent project wasF*ck 7th Grade, which was aNew York Timescritic's pick and had four runs from 2022-2024. An original cast album from the show is set for a June 6 release, along with a red vinyl reissue of her breakthrough self-titled album, featuring "I Kissed a Girl" and "Supermodel." That show is already sold out. Another Los Angeles show, set for July 1 at Largo at the Coronet, will feature Cho as well as Caffey and Wiedlin of the Go-Go's, John Doe,Sara Watkinsof Nickel Creek and others. The New York show, set for July 20 at Joe's Pub, will featureRichard Barone, formerly of the Bongos, as well asTracy Bonham,Joan Osborneand others.
